It’s extremely important to visit your optician regularly. That way, you can have your eye health monitored and rest assured you don’t have any potential problems.

You are no doubt doing everything in your power to ensure your child’s condition does not get in the way of their learning. Brogans can aid you by offering Vision Therapy – a revolutionary treatment that can help to reduce and even overcome the problems associated with these learning barriers.

An Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) is a specialist piece of equipment that is used to scan through the layers of the eye, including the parts that can’t be seen on a retinal photograph. The machine takes a series of snapshots of sections of your retina and other parts of the back of your eye. The images are then combined to create a 3D, cross sectional view of your eyeball so that your optician can examine it in great detail.

Many aspects of vision other than an individual’s eye TR sight are assessed, such as focussing ability and speed, ability to use the two eyes together, spatial awareness, tracking ability and accuracy of saccades (eye movements used for reading).

Conditions that are more easily identified through the use of OCT imaging are:

  • Age related macular degeneration
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular holes
  • Vitreous detachment
  • Diabetic Macular Oedema

At P J Brogan Opticians we recommend you incorporate OCT imaging into your regular eye examination, especially if you have a family history of any of the conditions listed above, or you are over 40 years of age.

OCT imaging is completely painless and perfectly suitable for all ages.
